Ask Sacramento's Miata club where to take your car and you'll hear one name: Dan. The Sacramento Area Miata Owners Association lists Wrench Monkeys as a vendor its members have recommended for years, and owners regularly call him their club mechanic. Longtime owners may remember Dan from the Crazy Red Miata days.
Every generation, fair prices
He works on every generation. Owners describe timing belts and water pumps on NAs, motor mounts on a Mazdaspeed, coilovers on an NC, and shocks and springs on an ND1. Nick had a Hard Dog roll bar installed in his ND for hundreds less than Bay Area quotes, and Gary drove his 1994 up from the Bay Area for a timing belt job that came in more than 30% under his local estimates.
Dan is also the kind of mechanic you want on speed dial. Jared's newly purchased Miata threw a check-engine light as he crested the Grapevine on a Friday evening. A quick phone call was enough for Dan to name the problem, and a code reader confirmed it the next morning. "He races as a hobby and will flat out tell you if something will make your car faster or is just gimmick," wrote P. T.
