When a Portland Miata needs a new top, the advice tends to point the same way. The Mt Hood Miata Club lists Bright Auto Upholstery for top installations, and when Fred bought a Robbins top for his Miata, everyone he asked recommended Bright. Four years later the top was still water-tight, wrinkle-free and easy to raise and drop. "Money well spent," wrote Fred K.
Patient with you, careful with the car
Tracy's story covers years. When a friend's help ripped the zipper out of her aging top, Mike, who runs the shop, came out and got it latched. When the rear window clouded over, he suggested products to restore it. When a vandal finally slashed the top, Tracy came back for the real job: an upgrade from vinyl to cloth with a glass rear window. "Thanks for being patient with me Mike! And thanks for the great work," wrote Tracy B.
Scott called with questions and got a full rundown on Miata tops, including a part number to price-check elsewhere. Another Miata owner chasing water in the trunk learned it was clogged rain-rail drains, not a bad top, which is a much cheaper fix.
Know before you go
Quality tops aren't cheap, and Fred called the price "not especially inexpensive" but worth it. One Miata owner felt the shop was slow to call back with a quote, so if you're on a deadline, follow up.
